About the course

The aim of this qualification is to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to work in the catering and hospitality industry.

The Food Production and Cooking Apprenticeship provides a range of specialist units for cooks and chefs  employed in small to medium sized establishments including Care Home Kitchens, Hotels, Pubs, Restaurants and Food Outlets.


Job Responsibilities

This person will work in a kitchen alongside other team members; they will primarily be responsible for the preparation and cooking of all food items for their customers including starters, main courses and desserts.  They will understand all areas of the kitchen and be responsible for the set up and close down.

Their job role will involve:

  • Working safely and hygienically in the kitchen area
  • Maintaining food safety when preparing, cooking, serving and storing food, including updating temperature logs and food safety information
  • Able to set up and close down the kitchen area and equipment
  • Able to prepare and cook a full variety of dishes including fish, meat, poultry, vegetables, pasta, pastry, hot and cold desserts, hot sauces and egg dishes.
