Data Protection and Information Governance Practitioners help organisations manage personal and sensitive information safely, legally, and ethically. They support compliance with data protection laws, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act, while helping colleagues understand and follow good information governance practices.
Apprentices in this role develop the skills to identify and reduce data risks, handle subject access requests, support data breach investigations, maintain policies and records, and promote a culture of responsible data handling across the organisation. The role combines legal awareness, analytical thinking, communication skills, and practical problem-solving.
This apprenticeship equips learners with the practical skills needed to support effective data protection and information governance within a wide range of organisations.
Learners will develop knowledge and skills in:
- Data protection legislation, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act
- Information governance principles and compliance requirements
- Managing data risks and supporting privacy assessments
- Handling data breaches and incident reporting
- Processing data subject rights requests
- Records management and information security
- Promoting data protection awareness and best practice across the organisation
This EPA has 2 assessment methods.
- Assessment Method 1: Work-based project report with a presentation and questions and answers
- Assessment Method 2: Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
Typical roles that this apprenticeship will support are Data protection lead, Data protection manager, Information compliance officer, Information governance lead, Information governance officer and Privacy officer.
