An Early Years Lead Practitioner takes an active lead in the care, learning, and development of young children aged from birth to eight years. They work in a range of settings and are responsible for leading other practitioners and an aspect or environment such as Communication and Language, Planning and Assessment, Forest School, Physical Activity and Nutrition. They are highly skilled professionals who engage with sector developments and report directly to the head of the setting. They interact with children, families, practitioners, other professionals, and appropriate agencies on a daily basis.
During their apprenticeship, the individual will gain the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for their chosen role and industry. Below are examples of the subject areas to aid them in this effort:

- Assessment Method 1: Observation of practice with questions
- Assessment Method 2: Professional Discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
