Senior healthcare support workers play a crucial role in providing clinical, therapeutic, and diagnostic care in various healthcare settings. They work under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered healthcare professional to support them in delivering high-quality and compassionate health and care services.
A senior healthcare support worker may specialise in one of the following occupational options:
-adult nursing support
-maternity support
-theatre support
-mental health support
-children and young people support
-allied health profession therapy support
-diagnostic imaging support
During their apprenticeship, individuals gain skills, knowledge, and behaviours in their chosen role and industry. This includes duties such as;
- Promote the health and wellbeing of individuals.
- Maintain the health, safety and security of yourself and others in the workplace by identifying risks and taking appropriate action to keep people safe.
- Contribute to the quality of services by participating in improvement activities.
This Apprenticeship has 2 assessment methods.
- Assessment Method 1: Observation of practice with questions
- Assessment Method 2: Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

- English and maths qualifications must be completed in line with the apprenticeship funding rules.
- Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support
Learners may be required to undertake the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result prior to starting.
